Ashley left for Naples yesterday, and I’m glad to have already received an email from her saying that she “had finally made it to Rome”. Apparently someone from a family of 11 fell and broke an arm, and the plane was held for a 1 1/2 hrs, while they retrieve their luggage… According to her email, Ashley was waiting for other folks in the program to arrive, so they all could take a shuttle-bus to Naples together.

The kids and I brought Ashley to the airport yesterday, and both Lorenzo and Chloe had a melt down when it was time for her to leave. They were already missing her, since Ashley had just returned from a conference in Sacramento, CA, and seeing her leave again so soon really made them wish they were joining her — two weeks seemed way too long of a wait for them.

They were also so “cute”. On our way back home, Chloe fell asleep, exhausted. Lorenzo was feeling pretty small, and he kept pretty quiet despite my attempts to distract him. Then after a bit of silence, he declares that he wished he could fall asleep like Chloe and hibernate for the next couple of weeks so he didn’t have to miss his Mom. To make them feel better, I mentioned we should all sleep together on “Mom’s bed”. And when it was time, Lorenzo ended up wearing Ashley’s tee-shirt as pajamas — the one she was wearing that morning, and Chloe used her robe as an extra [comforting] blanket.

I can’t wait to see them light up when we meet Ashley in Italy in a couple of weeks.
