We were able to reach our lovely Ashley again yesterday, and the program seems to be traveling at a pretty good pace. While in the Naples vicinity, they visited the coastal town of Sorrento — which according to Ashley, it is much nicer then Naples itself. From what I’ve seen online, it is indeed a beautiful place. Since Ashley hasn’t been able to send us many photos yet, here is a sample of Sorrento photos from flickr.com.
In addition, on their way to Rome, they visited Reggia di Caserta (Caserta Palace), the largest building erected in Europe in the eighteenth century. One can certainly see a resemblance in architecture to Château de Versailles, France. Yet, it is hard to imagince it is even grander. It must have been a great field-trip for the Ashley and the landscape architecture students. (By the way, if you haven’t already, you really should download google earth to really see the scale of this site.) And again, here are some photo samples of Caserta from flickr.com.
